About DDS

Built for publishers, by operators.

Digital Desk Services is a managed digital operations company. We exist because modern publishers need a team that understands the stack the same way the stack needs to be run: across platform, advertising, streaming, compliance, and subscriber operations — at once, as one function.

We are a small, senior team. We do not sell discovery phases as a revenue line, we do not staff engagements with people we would not be comfortable putting in front of a CFO, and we do not pretend that publishing is just another vertical.

DDS was founded to fill a specific gap. Publishers were being served by two kinds of companies: large traditional agencies who could build a website but could not operate an ad stack, and point-solution vendors (paywall, consent, ad tech, streaming) who could each operate their slice and none of the seams between them. The result was a modern news publisher with six vendor relationships, four renewal cycles, and no single team accountable for uptime.

We set out to be that single team. The model has been validated by every engagement that has followed. The rest of our practice has grown from that foundation.

What we believe

Operational accountability beats sprint velocity.

A publisher does not care how many story points were delivered last sprint. They care whether the homepage loaded during the news cycle, whether the ad stack ran, whether the newsletter went out, and whether Search Console has cleaned up since the migration. We organize around the metrics the business actually reports.

In-house capability is the goal of every engagement.

Our best work compounds: every quarter, one fewer vendor invoice and one more capability living inside our client’s operation. Replacing rented infrastructure with owned. Replacing a monthly PDF with a live dashboard. The outcome we are proudest of is the one where we are doing less, because the client is doing more.

Engineering culture belongs in the newsroom.

The best publisher engineering teams are neither purely technical nor purely editorial — they are bilingual. DDS is staffed to be a credible counterpart to both editorial leadership and infrastructure leadership, and to translate between them when that is what a moment calls for.

Confidentiality is part of the product.

Our clients run public-facing news brands. The infrastructure work that makes their businesses run is not their public story to tell. We work under operational confidentiality and we do not name engagements on a marketing site. The work is what it is — visible to the audience as a site that loads, an ad that renders, a newsletter that delivers, a stream that plays.

Team

DDS operates with a senior-weighted team, intentionally small. Engineering, quality, and operations leadership are all internal. We do not subcontract production work to staffing agencies, and the people you meet in the audit are the people who run the engagement.

Looking for an operator, not an agency?

Tell us what you’re running and what’s breaking, slipping, or coming up for renewal. Most engagements start with a written audit delivered to leadership inside four weeks.
